Lesson 6 of 12

Snow, jungle and desert shelters

45 min

Shelter means slowing heat loss in Britain. In other places the problem changes shape. In deep snow, the snow itself becomes your best insulation and your greatest danger. In the jungle, the ground is the enemy: wet, crawling with ants and leeches, and liable to flood overnight. In the hot desert, shelter means shade, and the job is to stop heat getting in and sweat getting out.
