Lesson 5 of 10

Moving away from the search: the Sierra Nevada and the Sahara

35 min

When you are lost, every instinct says move. Moving feels like doing something. Sitting still feels like giving up. Search records from around the world show that lost people rarely stay put at first: they walk in a chosen direction, try routes and come back, climb for a view, follow any path they find. Sometimes this gets them out. Often it carries them further from where anyone would look.
